Week Beginning Monday 20th July

2 more days to go ...

Monday and Tuesday:

We would like you to write a school report on us, the adults in Year 4! You can write one report about all of us, one of us, or three separate reports. I will share a OneNote in your English tab for you to write on, or please write it in your home learning book. When you have finished, you can also do the Bitesize activities if you would like an extra challenge. Please let us know on teams when you have finished. Again, we will all be busy in school, getting the classrooms ready for September, so we will reply to you as soon as we can.

Remember to read for 30 minutes each day and try the Joe Wicks work out online for your PE lessons.

Monday: English, Maths and all other subjects: BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons There are new lessons for each day.

As promised on Friday, I'm not setting any extra work today so that you have time to enter the virtual sports day if you would like to - deadline today. Please have a look at Bitesize as the Science will remind you of our Sound topic. Please look out for some OneNote activities tomorrow and don't forget to sign up for video calls on Wed and Thurs.

.........................................................

Tuesday: (All of the work is also available on OneNote.)

English: This is Lemmee's acrostic poem.

Loves to visit new houses,

Every day learning in class,

Munches biscuits when people aren't looking,

Many adventures happen in her diaries,

Everybody loves her,

Excited to meet new children.

Your challenge is to make one of your name. You can do just one name or both if you want to. Your acrostic must be about you in some way, so think carefully about each letter! You could think about your time in Y4 and include that somehow if you can. Try to show me your best ideas and remember to take care with spelling. If you are writing it on paper, use your best handwriting and you could add pictures too. If you type it on OneNote, you could add some clip art.

Miss Heard, Mrs. Sowden and I can't wait to read them!

Maths:

Times Table Check - click here

By the end of Year 4, most of you should be able to do the Year 4 check on 'doing well' or even 'advanced' mode.

Have a go and keep score throughout the week and until the end of term …

Why not keep practising these over the summer too, to get you ready for Year 5? … Good luck!

Science/Music:

Click here - Found Sounds link

..................................................

Wednesday:

English: Before you end your time in the Lemur class, I thought that it would be a good idea for you to find out about this interesting animal. Your task is to find 3 (or more) facts about Lemurs. You can include text and pictures if you want to. Try to find 3 completely different facts (the more crazy the better!) about things such as their diet, habitat, size, body or characteristics – anything you choose.

Maths: See '15.7.20 Maths Healthy Eating Code Breaker' in downloads. Answers are included. Please also do another Times Table Check... Times Table Check - click here

DT (food):

How many of these foods can you list from each colour?

Design a recipe using your favourite foods from here. It could be a fruit salad, a savoury salad or another healthy snack or meal. Show me your ideas below. If you are allowed, why not make a healthy snack today and show me …? I would love to see some pictures! Can you try to eat a rainbow today? I will do this challenge with you and I will send pictures on our teams chat.

.............................

Thursday:

Maths: Today is the 16th July so all of your answers have to be 16. How many questions can you think of that will have the answer of 16?

Use a range of operations: + - x and ÷

Can you think of a question (or more) involving shape?

Can you think of a question involving fractions or even decimals?

Remember, the numbers in your questions can be smaller or much bigger than 16, but the answer must always be 16.

Please also do another Times Table Check... Times Table Check - click here

English:

If you cannot access the '2 truths and a lie' work via your child's OneNote, then please go to Bitesize for today's English lesson on creating a comic strip about the moon landing.

.......................................

Friday: Today's learning has been sent to you on an English OneNote (17.7.20). You will love it because the adults have written to you about their memories this year. We would like you to write your memories back to us too. We would like you to take your time with this, so I haven't set any other learning, but you can also do the Bitesize tasks if you want to. Look out for more learning next week when you get to write a school report on the adults!

Remember to read for 30 minutes each day and try the Joe Wicks work out online for your PE lessons.

See downloads below for any extra times tables activities that you can use whenever you like.

Friday 10th July

All of your work is on OneNote for today.

In maths, I would like you to focus on your timestables today. You need to be confident with all of your times tables and their division facts ready for your maths work in Year 5.

In English, write a diary entry as if you are the big bird in the film clip.

I would like you to spend some time reading today and practising your spellings.

It has been lovely seeing your work this week and I cannot wait to see you all in September!

Thursday 9th July

I have put all of your work on OneNote for today.

In maths, I would like you to look at this maze. Adding the numbers as you go, can you find a way through that equals exactly 100? What is the highest number you can make? What is the lowest number?

In English, watch this short film.

Write a dialogue between the small birds and the big bird. Remember to include the correct punctuation for speech.

In topic, I would like you to write 10 amazing facts about yourself. Ask your family or friends to help you. Display them in an imaginative way. This could be a lift the flap poster, a guess who game or any other way you can think of.

Wednesday 8th July

All of your work is on OneNote for today.

In maths, I would like you to write 5 calculations and solve them. Make sure you included all operations. As a challenge, try to write a word problem to go with each calculation. You can always email them to me for me to solve, or share them on Teams for your friends.

In English, I would like you to go through the story that you wrote yesterday and colour code the word types. Try to find all of the adjectives, adverbs, verbs and nouns in your writing. If you have not got many of a particular one, see if you can add some more in.

As Year 5 are called Leopard Class, today do some art work inspired by leopards. This could be a picture of a leopard or a close up of it's face or it could be a design for a leopard print outfit. Anything you want.

I look forward to seeing your work. Don't forget that you can upload it to OneNote or send it to me by email using jryan@beaconprimaryacademy.org

Tuesday 7th July

Thank you for your fantastic start yesterday! All of your work is on OneNote for today.

In maths, there is a quiz for you to do, which you can find here - Maths Quiz. This link will work on tablets and mobile phones too. If you cannot access it, try writing out some of your own calculations to work out. You could see if you could write the inverse too.

In English, use the picture from yesterday to write your own story about the creature who lives behind the door.

In topic, write a fact file on a topic you are really interested in. This could be a hobby, pet or film series that you really like.

Monday 6th July (Transition Week)

Good morning to our new Year 5s.

All of your work is on OneNote in a section called Yr5 Transition.

In Maths I would like you to investigate how many ways you can half a rectangle that is 4 squares wide and 3 squares down. Is there a sensible method to ensure you explore all options and do not many ways of halving the shape? Is there a relationship between the area of the shape and how many options there are?

In English, look at this picture.

Can you draw and label a picture of what might appear from behind this tiny door? What will it look like, act like, smell like, sound like? Will it be something lovely or something scary? How does it move? How does it eat? Label your character using expanded noun phrases, similes and metaphors.

For your topic work, I would like you to mind-map all of your history learning from Year 3 and 4. Include any information that you can remember about the Stone, Bronze and Iron ages and the Romans. You can present your information in any way you choose.

I look forward to seeing your work.

If you are not working on OneNote, you can email me using jryan@beaconprimaryacademy.org.
